Spiritual Research Network (SRN)

Proclaiming the Gospel and Encouraging Biblical Discernment

Spiritual Research Network (SRN) is an independent Christian outreach committed first and foremost to the Lord Jesus Christ and the integrity of His Word. Our goal is to proclaim the Gospel, encourage biblical discernment and research, inform and warn about the dangers of cults, spiritual abuse, and mystical/occult based spirituality.

As a Christian outreach, Spiritual Research Network places proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the top priority. We also consider sound biblical discernment as of utmost importance because biblical discernment and the clear proclamation of the Gospel go hand-in-hand. Without biblical understanding in the proclamation of the Gospel according to Scripture, the message of God’s creation account (Genesis 1-12) and the clear fundamental teachings of the Bible become convoluted and distorted. In any Christian church or Christian Missions movement, preaching the Gospel, teaching biblical truth, and warning against false doctrine, false teachers, and false prophets, is paramount. (See God’s Method of Consistently ‘Warning’ and ‘Teaching’)
“Beloved, believe not every spirit,
but try [test] the spirits
whether they are of God:
because many false prophets
are gone out into the world.”

—1 John 4:1
Spiritual Research Network has also created a Spiritual Abuse Questionnaire covering many different areas and types of abuse. We have done a significant amount of research on the dangers of yoga, meditation perils, kundalini awakening—symptoms, hazards and emergencies, and spiritual abuse and spiritual crisis in general. Many of these things are crossing over into churches, coupled with over-bearing “authoritarian” church leadership abuses.

We have expressed our great concern over the numerous mystical methods and spiritual dangers that comprise contemplative spirituality. The French-based Taizé movement, with its ecumenical, interfaith Taizé community and Taizé worship, is just one example. For many years, we have also been warning about Eastern Occult philosophy, meditation, and the spiritistic (spiritism) influences and practices of the New Age/New Spirituality and occult-based Yoga movements.

Finally, for those affected by the many long-standing false teaching movements and newer false revival and “holy laughter” movements in Christian churches worldwide, our website and our off-site links to other research ministries can be of much help. We have helped and encouraged many thousands of people through the years. We hope and pray that our materials and those that we recommend will be of great help to you and your family and friends.

Article - The Voice of the 'Jesus Calling' Series: More Like Jesus Christ or More Like a Deceiver?

  • Read extensive article—with comparisons and contradictory statements from Sarah Young's "Jesus."
To many readers, the narrator of Sarah Young’s devotionals sounds like Jesus Christ of the Bible. His credible use of scripture and compassionate words certainly mimic the true Jesus. His understanding and acceptance of human struggles draw the reader in. His convincing presentation of partial biblical truths allays doubt. But embedded in the messages are peculiar statements that may be missed by the reader—statements that may seem a little “off.”  They don’t sound like Jesus as revealed in Scripture, not because they are in modern language but because they are out of character. It’s as if Young’s “Jesus” occasionally slips up and reveals his true agenda. Some of the more revealing quotations are collected in the following pages, and troubling themes emerge...

Video - Naming Names of False - Teachers, Prophets, Apostles, and Christs

  • Watch video
From beginning to end, God warns in His Word—the Holy Bible—about spiritual deception. False teachers, false prophets, false apostles, and even false Christs, are warned about in Scripture. Many times God names them by name. Always, His purpose of warning about them and calling them by name is because He loves humans and wants to protect people from spiritual deception. In our day and age, it seems most church leaders are afraid even to mention the names of famous personalities who are false teachers within the Church...

Blogpost - Jesus Calling Devotional Series—A Path to Mediumship?

  • Read article
Readers of A. J. Russell’s God Calling books and Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling series may reject the idea of becoming a medium, channel, or psychic if it is put plainly before them. However, if it is introduced indirectly through Christian-sounding devotions, and if the spirit being channeled is called “Jesus,” they might be more receptive..

Article - Is the Jesus Calling Series "Consistent with Biblical Truth"?

  • Read article
Many have pointed out general ways in which Sarah Young’s writing departs from biblical truth. Below are twenty-five specific examples from her devotionals that seem to either misuse or disregard Scripture. The following books are used as sources: Jesus Calling (2004), Dear Jesus (2007), Jesus Lives (2009), Jesus Today (2012), Jesus Calling Devotional Journal (2013), Jesus Today Devotional Journal (2014), Jesus Calling Morning & Evening (2015), Jesus Always (2016)...

The New York Times bestselling Christian daily devotional Jesus Calling by Sarah Young contains New Age buzzwords, extra-biblical names, pagan concepts, false teachings, and clairaudient (channeling/“clear hearing”) messages from a false Christ (spirit guide). When examining the entire multi-devotional Jesus Calling series as a whole, an elaborate integrated message system containing hidden (occult) teachings is exposed...

Video - Contemplative Spirituality Concerns: The Literature—50 Plus Books  that Church Leaders Need to See

  • WATCH VIDEO
PART ONE (Minute 00:01) Introduction: A biblical warning and brief statement about various genres of mystical and occult oriented Contemplative Spirituality "centering-prayer" literature that are infiltrating churches and Christian communities. PART TWO (Minute 09:35) Considering biblical "separation" from false teachers and false teachings (Romans 16, v.17-19), as opposed to gleaning from "Christian mystics" and experiential practices that are virtually identical to the occult training of the Hindus. PART 3 (Minute 30:33) Fr. Thomas Keating is the Modern Day Pioneer of the international Contemplative Outreach Ltd. "centering-prayer" movement. As such, he seeks to "integrate" Christian spirituality with the occult "Serpent Power" of Hinduism, otherwise known as Kundalini energy. According to Hindu and Buddhist occultists, "Kundalini-shakti" lies coiled at the base of the spine, awaiting arousal via centering prayer/occult meditation. PART 4 (Minute 48:46) Contemplative Spirituality's dangerous Christian Mysticism/occult hybrid form of "Centering Prayer" is inextricably tied to Interfaith (Inter-religious) Dialogue, Ecumenism, and the ever-increasing "Global Oneness" New Spirituality/New Gospel of the New Age movement.

Book - Taizé: A Community and Worship—Ecumenical Reconciliation or an Interfaith Delusion?

Description: Over 100,000 young people visit Taizé Community in France every year. Many of them are from Christian homes. What's more, an increasing number of churches are introducing Taizé worship practices in their church services. Just what exactly is Taizé?: In the 1940s in France during World War II, a Swiss Reformed Protestant man named Roger Louis Schütz-Marsauche began reaching out to suffering people, in particular refugees from the war. Through his efforts, Taizé Community, located in Taizé, Burgundy, France, was birthed.
